Rivers of America by Tim Palmer - The Essence of Flowing Water

Rivers of America by Tim Palmer, 224 pages, hardcover, published in September 2006.

A beautiful book featuring great photographs by Tim Palmer. I would love to receive this book as a gift for Christmas and I am sure that any other paddler and photographer would enjoy it.

Tim Palmer is the author of sixteen books about rivers and the environment, a photographer of landscapes and nature, and a public speaker with slide shows about the environment, rivers, and land.
Rivers flow with peace and with power, they nourish all creatures, and they inspire us with their exquisite beauty.

Award-winning author and photographer Tim Palmer has followed a lifelong passion to understand these essential lifelines and to travel with the current wherever it leads, and now he presents this dazzling collection of images that show the variety and stunning artistry of America's rivers.

Through decades of experience and hundreds of journeys, he has captured the most illuminating moments as the sun rises, seasons change, colors unfurl, and wildlife silently appears along the water's edge.

He has photographed from the shore, from his canoe and raft, from skis on top of the ice, from mountaintops and airplanes overhead, and from the current itself by wading in as deep as he could go to share the intimacy of rivers--fluid, timeless, brilliant. In vivid details as well as encompassing perspectives, he shows the true nature of our watery network, from Maine to California, from Florida to Alaska.

Drawing on his own experience and on an abundance of research, Palmer describes how we can engage our minds and hearts with these magnificent places. He reveals how rivers function in the greater web of life. He guides us on a grand tour of waterways all across our country, and he explains what is now happening to our streams and what people are doing to protect the best that's left.

Rivers of America celebrates the essence of flowing water as no other book has ever done.
