Winter in Colorado is unusually cold and snowy this year. Nevertheless, the South Platte River is still flowing and in average ones per week I manage to drive 40-50 miles to the river to enjoy some paddling.
The above picture shot with Pentax Optio W10 comes from my recent afternoon paddling on January 10. I paddled my Thunderbolt-X kayak from Kersey upstream to the confluence with Poudre River. It was a great workout with a company of geese, ducks, herons, and bald eagles. I saw goose hunters only where I expected to see them: at the mouth of the Poudre near the Mitani Tokuyasu SWA. The air temperature dropped down from 32F when I launched to 23F after sunset when I was loading a heavy and icy kayak on my Subaru.
