Nikon D200 Camera and ICF Racing Kayak - Winter Paddling in Stockholm

Björn Olin has posted a couple of pictures from his winter paddling in the Stockholm area, Sweden. Here is one of them. It is worth to visit his web site essingen.com to see some good racing photography.

I used a Nikon D200 with 12-24 mm lens on it. Pretty tricky to photo and it was quite a gamble with $$$. My plan was to ignore the camera and kayak if I flipped, just get to shore (about 20 meters behind me).

The photos are taken just next to Stora Essingen Island, which is one of the 13 downtown islands of Stockholm.

Hmmm ... Paddling an ICF racing kayak in winter, taking a DSLR camera with you, shooting with a camera in one hand and a paddle in another, everything a little bit icy ...

Anyway, a wide angle lens provides a very nice perspective. I cannot get this kind of shot with Pentax Optio W10. Now, I am thinking. Should I try to play with a Canon DSLR when paddling my Thunderbolt kayak on the South Platte River next time?

Björn was paddling ICF 5.20 Nelo Vanquish Vintage kayak. For the shot above he had the lens at 12 mm position.
