Horsetooth, Snow, Ice and Sea Wind Canoe

paddling Horsetooth Reservoir

canoe Horsetooth Reservoir, Colorado

Horsetooth Reservoir is still mostly ice free, except some coves and a few places along the eastern coast. Yesterday, I took Sea Wind canoe for a short 6 mile evening paddling. I started from one of boat ramps in the South Bay, went north to Dixon Cove and back. I love paddling Horsetooth off season - quiet, no boats, just birds and me.

I just bought 2008 annual passes for Larimer County Parks: $65 for a car + $35 paddling pass ($5 up). It covers three paddling water area (Horsetooth Reservoir, Carter Lake, Pinewood Reservoir) and Horsetooth Mountain Park. You can also access the Horsetooth Reservoir from Lory State Park (North Eltuck Cove) if you don't mind to carry your boat, but, formally, you still need a paddling pass.
