Another evening on the Beaver Pond near Fort Collins. Sunny, clear sky, still warm, but possible frost during night. It was first time this fall I wore my chota mukluk boots. After several evenings of shooting with my SLR camera on a tripod (see my pictures from Fort Collins downtown in the previous post and on Flickr) it was time for some kayak photography.
I started my paddling with an auto photo session using my Pentax Optio W10 in interval mode: 30 shots every 10 seconds starting with 1 minute delay. You cannot use a shorter interval between shots in this camera. I mounted the camera at different spots on my kayak with a sticky pod, tried different angles, different courses in relation to the lowering sun.
With several photo runs I covered 1.5 mile and shot nearly 200 frames. I was trying to get some interesting patterns involving a bow wave and a paddle.
Results? Well, they are not so great. I could select some OK pictures but nothing really spectacular at least in the reference to my pictures from the Lonetree Reservoir under stormy sky.
You can expect much higher success rate when a photographer takes more active role in shooting. Of course, it is a lot of fun to play with a camera in the auto mode.
After sunset I paddled 5 more miles in a training mode with my Sisson Nucleus 100 kayak.
