Cache la Poudre in Winter by Racing Canoe

After second heavy snowstorm there is a lot of snow in Fort Collins and life is somewhat slow. I am sitting home with a cold. Thunderbolt kayak is sitting in my living room. However, there is still a paddling life in northern Colorado. Rob Bean sent me the following photo correspondence from his canoe experience on Thursday, December 28th:
I wanted to let you know there is some clear water in Northern Colorado still. I paddled 2.75 miles up and down the Poudre today from Strauss Cabin. It was nice to be in the boat though my hull has a few new scratches in it. Going upstream I paddled, pulled and poled the boat but coming down I was able to slip through most spots without getting out of the boat. Lots of wildlife was out today, I didn't see any hunters but did see the Eagles.

Poudre River Poudre River Poudre River

Thanks, Rob. It's quite amazing!

The water gauge at Timnath did not show more flow than 3-4 cfs during last days. I have paddled this part of the river (from Strauss Cabin to I-25) in winter at a little bit higher flow between 10 and 30 cfs, but I have never had such a nice snow scenery on the Poudre. My portfolio Solo paddler, solo photographer comes from one of those trips.
