Back to Big T with Sisson Nucleus

paddling Big Thompson River Loveland Coloradopaddling Big Thompson River Loveland Coloradopaddling Big Thompson River Loveland Colorado

After patching bottom of my kayak I was paddling Big Thompson River again. This time I went to the river early morning because of stormy weather in afternoons lately. During last weekend nine people were injured by lightning on the shore of my local Boyd Lake.

I paddled the same stretch of the river as last time: from I-25 upstream to the dam and back. The water was pretty shallow. I had to walk through one spot and I was really hard on my paddle in several others. The water gauge in Loveland reported a good flow of 150cfs, but I wasn't sure how many diversion dams were between me and that gauge. It was less water than during my down river trip in April when the report showed only about 75cfs at Loveland. It was enough water for nice paddling down stream, especially, that it was possible to squeeze under some logs I had to portage at high water.
