Pinewood Reservoir is a small 100 acre lake located west of Carter Lake at an elevation of 6,580 feet in northern Colorado. Together with the adjacent Ramsay-Shockey Open Space it belongs to Larimer County Parks.

The reservoir is also a part of the Colorado-Big Thompson Project operated by the Bureau of Reclamation and the Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District. The purpose of this water project is to divert water from the west slope to the east slope for drinking water, irrigation, and hydropower generation.

I paddled there in the evening of June 1, 2007. A loop around the lake at rather low water level took about 1.8 mile. I paddled 3 loops with a photo stop at the crossing of Shoshone and Besant Point Trails on the west shore. The lake offers perhaps less solitude that it can be seen on my pictures due to some houses in the vicinity and busy campgrounds. It is popular among fishermen. However, if you have already purchased annual passes for the Larimer County Parks the Pinewood is worth visiting.

The pictures were shot with my Pentax Optio W10 camera.
