Gross Reservoir - Fall Paddling in Colorado Rocky Mountains

Gross Reservoir
September 2005

During the week of September 26-30 I was commuting from Fort Collins to Broomfield for a conference. I took advantage of the free afternoon on Thursday and enjoyed paddling my Sisson Nucleus kayak on the Gross Reservoir west of Boulder. It was really the last chance this season since the reservoir was open for paddling only until the end September.

The water level was much lower than during my July trip . It was especially visible at the inlet of South Boulder Creek. I spent a lot of time there searching for fall colors and photographing with Pentax Optio WP. Nevertheless, I paddled two full laps around the lake. Nice weather, a little bit windy, a few fishermen, and couple of canoeists from the Poudre Paddlers Club.

I launched again at Osprey Point. Next time, I am going to try the north shore access at the Boat House. Unfortunately, the next time will be next year.

GPS trip odometer: distance 15.1 miles, moving time: 3:12h , stopping time: 1:05h, average moving speed: 4.7mph, max speed 7.4 mph.
