Winter Canoeing on the South Platte River in Northern Colorado

I am not the only one who enjoys winter paddling on the South Platte River in northern Colorado. Rob Bean and his co-worker paddled 15 miles in a canoe from Evans to Kuner on December 28, 2007. It was just after a fresh snow - the best time to paddle the South Platte.
I just got back from paddling Evans to Kunar with a co-worker and it was beautiful. However there is a lot of slush and some BIG chunks of drifting ice in the river. By sundown when we pulled off it was like paddling through a slurpee and was very slow. We managed 3 hours and 19 minutes including two pretty long dam portages. It got sooooo cold once the sun set, it was 13 degrees when we drive out of Evans this evening, brrrrrr.

I believe that Rob was shooting pictures with Pentax Optio W30 - see his full photo album.
