Paddling Shots from Deck and Helmet Mounted Waterproof Cameras

Pentax Optio W20
Olympus SW 720

Brad Gwynn mounts Pentax Optio W10 on a foredeck of his sea kayak and goes surfing. He made his mounting rig out of piece of a plastic trash can, minicell foam, a couple of nuts and bolts and some PVC tubing. To prevent water droplets on his lens, he coats his camera's lens with RainX, a car care product that repels water. Brad's pictures were used to illustrate a kayak surfing series in Adam Bolonsky's blog.

Even more dramatic surf pictures looking in different directions can be found in the The Nose Cam Waveski Photos album by waveskier2. It's not Pentax Optio but another camera in waterproof housing mounted on a waveski at feet straps.

Nick Shade of Guilemot Kayaks is shooting with Pentax Optio W10 and playing with the camera strapped to a helmet. He posted two sea kayaking videos in his blog: The first is one is from a couple days paddling the reefs of Watch Hill, Rhode Island and the Race and the second is an afternoon surfing off Napatree Point. In both videos, he is paddling in his new kayak design, Petrel.

In the picture above I am paddling my Spencer X-treme canoe. Pentax Optio W10 (in interval mode) was mounted with a suction cup (sticky pod) on the side of the boat bow since there is no deck there. I paddled X-treme in Texas Water Safari, Colorado River 100 and Missouri River 340 races as well as in some fast camping trips, e.g., on Green River through the Labyrinth Canyon.

Are you aware of any other on-line pictures or video shot with a compact digital camera mounted on kayak deck or a helmet?
