... paddling photography speedlinking for January 5, 2008

Paddling and photography links from our readers and from surfing the web:
  • Stephen Shephard has built a camera mount and monopod into his sea kayak front deck. An interesting concept! However, I prefer flexibility of my suction cup camera mount, but paddling inland I can usually easily stop and adjust my camera wherever on deck it is mounted.
  • Carlos, a sea kayaker from Spain, is paddling with Sanyo Xacti waterproof camcorder (known as VPC-E1 in USA). He posted a review of this new camera on his website with some reference to the older Sanyo model he used before. You can also see still pictures and video clips shot with Sanyo Xacti E1 from his recent paddling.
  • Three video cams on 6 person outrigger canoe - a new movie from Rambo's Locker
I went for a laid-back feel for this one keeping the mood in line with the music from "Salmonella Dub". I had 3 Cams blazing. A GoPro Hero3 facing rearwards on the front Iako, another one on a pole mount behind the steerer and a Sony wide-angle BulletCam on the Ama pointing at seats 1 to 4. All this was edited down to 4 mins covering mainly the start and the turns.

  • If you need some inspiration or just looking for new angles for your paddling movies you may check this snow boarding footage with an interesting helmet camera setup from Helmet Cam Central.
