I have just watched the second videocasting series of Photowalking with Thomas Hawk on ScobleShow from Half Moon Bay in California famous for pumpkins:
Cleaning the camera sensor in his Canon 5D before shooting was perhaps the most helpful for me, although, I am not sure if I would like to perform that operation in the field.
You can see pictures from Photowalking #2 on Zooomr. We can expect more Photowalking shows with other photographers as well.
Concerning the sensor cleaning you should check a great tutorial Our Dirty Little Secret by Michael Reichmann in The Luminous Landscape.
There comes a day when every DSLR owner looks at a 100% magnification of one of their images in Photoshop and gasps, "Where did that dust come from?" Nasty out of focus blobs. Squiggly little dust motes. Hairs. Uggh.
As scary as it may seem there is nothing for it but to clean the camera's sensor. It really isn't that tough to do, but you do need the right tools and approach. Here is the method and the supplies that I use. Work slowly. Work carefully. Use the right supplies and you should have no problem.
It is interesting that the dust on a camera sensor manifest stronger in my pinhole images than regular pictures shot though lens. I don't believe that it is the effect of dust entering through a tiny pinhole.
