Just a note on the floating wrist strap...I now do not like yellow ...seems the bees and wasps are very attracted to the yellow ..I have severe allergic reactions to the stings.....epi pen has to be carried. The manufactures should test them and see which color attracts least.

I use a Canon Powershot D10. My decision to go with the Canon over other cameras was based on image quality. From its debut until now (mid 2011), it has the highest image quality of any of the compact Point-and-Shoot waterproof cameras. This is partly due to the Digi3 processor as well as their using a bit deeper housing to allow for a larger lens. It makes it a little bulkier than other models, but well worth it if you want high quality images.

<b>Pros:</b>
- high quality 12.1mp images
- exceptionally good with all lighting conditions
- moderately good at low-light (surprising with such a small lens)
- diverse modes to fit any situation/condition, or a programmable one for your own tastes
- 3X optical zoom

<b>Cons:</b>
- Video is 640x480, not HD
- 3X optical zoom does not function in video mode
- waterproof casing makes a lot of noise if there is any movement of your hands on the camera during video

In short, the only downside is that this camera is really not that great for videos. When shooting videos, I usually have another camera with a 12X optical zoom along in an Aquapac water proof bag.

I paddle with a Canon IXUS 300 HS wrapped in my little waterproof contraption made of a freezer bag! Take my Nikon D200 in the day hatch for shots from the shore too.

Completely awesome blog by the way!

Hello Marek!

Malcolm from the kayak building forum here. Just FYI, the new Pentax Optio WP90 was released today for sale. (It was released earlier but today is the first day to get your hands on one.) I am still holding out for the Lumix TS2 which is supposed to be available in April, but Amazon just showed three in stock so maybe they are out now... or maybe the company lied about being in stock and is going to ship from the manufacturer. As far as I know it's not supposed to be out until April- and later in April at that. It goes to 33 feet waterproofing and has a 10-foot drop test for drop-proofing. Lumix has the Leica lens which is the best glass on the market. I did an exhaustive research of the Optio and the Lumix, and in MY OPINION the Lumix TS2 will edge out the W90 in performance. The W90 is still awesome, and cheaper too, so it's not that I wouldn't love to have either camera.

ALSO- Joe O'Blenis at www.joeoblenis.com is about to start stocking this camera mount for kayaks, and the light that mounts the same way:
http://www.kayalu.com/k/product_KCM3000.php
Joe has already placed an order and signed up to be a dealer. I have made a pre-order to be the first one to get one from him. I have not yet received it because he has not gotten his stock, but I love the way this mounts. The only thing is that it is not for larger cameras. It's perfect for an Optio or Lumix waterproof camera.

Will keep ya posted when I get the Lumix TS2. I have a pre-order in with a local dealer so I can be first!!!

Have been using an Optio W10 for years, which is great. Also have an Oregon Scientific ATC2K which takes horrible video. After much research, I have just upgraded to the Panasonic DMC-TS1. I was waiting for the Go Pro HD Wide to come out, but its still not shipping yet :( (11/30/09 after an original release date of 11/1/09) plus after reviewing some video from a regular GoPro wide, the super wide angle lens distorts to much at close range :(

I posted a couple of videos from the Pentax W10 on Youtube

I guess I should add some from the ATC2K for comparison, but im not rushing to use that again as the quality is just nasty :(

I use the Olympus Stylus 1050 SW camera because it is waterproof and shcokproof. I love this camera bought is just a couple months ago. I do with the zoom was a little better, but besides that I think it is great.

I use the Sony Cybershot DSC-U-60 Waterproof Digicam since 5 years. It's just a 2 MP-camera, but still unbeaten in handling and picture quality. It's a pity Sony never came with a successor. For replacement (just in case...) I am considering the Pentax W-60.
Greetings,
Hans

I use a Canon G9. On a neck strap, it fits nicely dropped down inside the top of my PFD where it's protected from splash. No good for rolling practice, however.

I use a nikon coolpixP5100. I keep it in a ziplock in a soft case.
I'd like to know a good SAFE way to take photos in rough conditions.
