Alpacka Yukon Packraft on the Poudre River

I had two paddling photo sessions with my Alpacka Yukon packraft on the Poudre River in February. Both times I started at Kingfisher Point Natural Area. There is about half mile of slow water behind the diversion dam there. My […]

Boat Portrait – Penobscot 16 Canoe from Old Town Canoes

This red Penobscot 16 from Old Town Canoes is a new addition to my paddling fleet. I got it from in Cheyenne. Right now, it is my only tandem boat, although, the Badfish SUP can accommodate two people. This is […]

Riverbend Ponds in Late Fall Scenery

October 24 2012. One of seven lakes in Riverbend Ponds Natural Area from a morning photowalk. Camera: Canon EOS 5D. Riverbend Ponds is one of City of Fort Collins Natural Area created along the Cache la Poudre River from former […]

Crocks or Everything Turns Green in Springtime

Three pictures from an evening paddle workout – Surfrigger canoe on the Lonetree Reservoir near Loveland, CO. The lake is still full, you can still paddle among submerged cottonwood trees or sneak into a supply ditch. You will see a lot fishing boats and fishermen on shores, but it is quiet. Of course, it is nice place to watch or photograph sunsets over mountains, especially, now when thunderstorms are moving around.

I was testing my new “high visibility” crocks in Surfrigger. They worked, but I prefer my regular water shoes which give a little bit more room to move my feet around in a tight cockpit. The Surfrigger hull is the narrowest (15′) in my paddling fleet.

This is my second pair of crocs. I’ve been using these clogs in Sea Wind canoe (2008 MR340 race) and, even, in Thunderbolt-X kayak.

Paddling with Pixel, the Water Corgi

In my recent paddling on the North Platte River around Saratoga in Wyoming I was accompanied in Sea Wind canoe by Pixel, the Water Corgi. Pixel has grown up with our Newfoundland girl, Dax, and is real water dog. We paddled together on my local lakes in northern Colorado and on the South Platte River. The North Platte was his debut on a bigger river with some waves and splashes.

Paddling through Forest and Irrigation Ditches

Lonetree Reservoir southwest of Loveland belongs to my favorite paddling waters in northern Colorado. You can always enjoy a nice view of Rocky Mountains Front Range. It is a great spot to shoot sunsets over mountains: A Peaceful Sunset after […]

Canon EOS 40D Camera on the Bow of a Racing Kayak

I always carry one of my waterproof Pentax Optiocameras attached to a life jacket to document my paddling trips and races. The image quality is fine to display pictures on-line, but it may be not sufficient for commercial applications. Pictures shot with compact digital cameras usually show a lot of digital noise when examining at 100% view.

In November 2007 I started to sell my pictures through microstock agencies. It forced me to carry a DSLR camera for paddling trips. It is a little bit tricky in the case of a low volume racing kayak like my Thunderbolt-X. Most often, I just pack a camera with a tripod and shoot from land. However, I am also trying to shoot from a kayak cockpit or from a decked mounted camera.

Paddling Horsetooth Reservoir in Winter Scenery

It was my first paddling on the Horsetooth Reservoir this year. I launched Sea Wind canoe at North Eltuck Cove from Lory State Park just dragging my boat on snow like sleds. It was similar snow scenery as four years ago when I was shooting Colorado Winter Paddling video clip. Just an easy 6 mile paddling with a long photo session at Quarry Cove.

A Girl Who Loves to Run – Laura’s Story by Chase Jarvis

Chase Jarvis blog is one of several photoblogs I read. I am under influence of his POV (point-of-view) photography. I haven’t tried anything like that with a bike yet, but I started to play with a Bogen – Manfrotto Magic Armand Super Clampon my surfrigger canoe.

Here is Laura’s Story by Chase Jarvis. A video clip about a girl who loves to run. A simple narration combined with video and still pictures. Different and interesting shooting angles.

It would be nice to create something similar about a paddler.
